DESCRIPTION
Virginia Beowulf (VB) is an English teaching school based in Moscow with a strong online presence, including a growing YouTube channel. In 2023, they began developing their own VB App, a full-stack educational platform to complement their teaching.
I originally collaborated with them as a freelance video editor and motion designer (2020–2025). When they learned about my transition into frontend development, they invited me to join the new project as a developer. Over time, my role shifted almost entirely from editing to coding, where I contributed across the stack and helped shape the product from its early stages.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Helped transform VB’s educational experience from a Telegram-based learning app into a scalable web platform, increasing accessibility and active user engagement.
- Implemented a dual-channel CI/CD workflow with GitHub Actions, ensuring stable deployments across dev and prod environments.
- Redesigned the vocabulary trainer module, improving UI/UX and raising user satisfaction (avg. 4.7/5) while reducing onboarding friction.
- Increased platform reliability by setting up HTTPS and SSL certificates.
- Onboarded and mentored a junior developer, boosting team capacity and code quality.
EXPERIENCE NOTE
This project was both a technical and career breakthrough. I carried responsibilities across backend and frontend, learning how to sustain and evolve a complex product while working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
It also marked my transition from creative media work into full-scale software development. It was a path where I grew as a problem-solver, communicator, and mentor.
While the VB App is still in its early development phase, it already stands as one of my most impactful contributions.
